It’s also silly simple, but it’s what I crave over and over and over again.

2 tbsp peanut butter
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2-3/4 cup almond milk
4 ice cubes (this is a scientific measurement)

While summer may not be my favorite season, there is something inherently optimistic about it, sun is shining, days are longer, and there are long pockets of time to simply be.

This past weekend I attended a forage and flat lay class hosted by @theoutsideinstitute and @whatbettefound
.
We spent an hour deep in nature learning about native plants and gathering items to make our flat lay photograph. This is my creation, and I am in love with it.
.
When I tell you this class was food for my soul I am not being hyperbolic. Something has changed in me since moving back to nature a year ago, a good something. My inner artist is alive and well after laying dormant for years in the city.
.
So let this serve as a gentle loving reminder to notice all parts of yourself, and with time and compassion allow change and curiosity and exploration.
.

In stories a few days ago I shared (what I thought was) an unpopular opinion about protein bars, I hate them.

Turns out - 87% of you agree!! 🤯

I don't hate protein bars for any nutrition or health reason, I hate them because they leave me wholly unsatisfied. I take one bite and immediately want a meal, like a bowl of pasta, a big salad, or a steak. A MEAL.
.
If you like protein bars, we can still be friends, if you don't, I put together this quick resource as a reminder that there are other options - by no means is this an exhaustive list!
.
I will also share that in my years of nutrition practice I have encountered, way too many times, individuals who have an unhealthy relationship with protein bars.
I understand the utility of a protein bar - quick, convenient and apparently some people like the way they taste 😜
What I encourage you to consider (if you are a devout protein bar lover) are these questions:
1) Would a meal be more satisfying than a bar?
2) Are you avoiding making a meal? Why?

A love story 💜❤️

On a chilly November day in 2002 this super cute, very well dressed guy asked me on a date. To the New York public library, for an exhibit on historic NYC restaurant menus, he said.

I said yes, and after that date, that cute guy.. literally never went home again 😬
.
This fall on the 20th anniversary of that first date, on the steps of that library flanked by the two NYPL lions names patience and fortitude (can’t make this shit up). I will say “I do” to that cute guy, my man, - my Jordan - and make him my husband, I assume - by proxy - I will become his wife.
.
I know what you are thinking, how can you really know someone after only 20 short years? Why are you both so impulsive?
.

The decision to marry happened like all things in our relationship, a shared idea, it’s time.
.
I love us. We have fought hard for us, we’ve grown up together, become full fledged, flawed human adults. Sometimes we bicker (nicknamed the Costanzas IYKYK), but we always find our way back to laughing and talking. Lots and lots of talking.
.
Our secret sauce to relationship success is pretty simple, we just want to be with each other, always. We are each other’s person, we love spending time together, traveling, exploring, renovating, creating and talking.
.
20 years in and we have never run out of things to talk about, and that, that, is pretty special.
.
20 years is a lifetime, more than 2x longer than the average marriage in the US (8.2 years if you were wondering), so we’ve made some different choices but here we are - happy and about to be newlyweds. 👸🏼🤴🏻

Main bedroom makeover!

This is the main bedroom in our 1904 farmhouse and it was BY FAR the ugly duckling of the house.
.
Strange layout, SMALL, layers of terrible floors, and don’t even get me started on the walls.
.
We considered using a different bedroom as our main, but this room had the closets.
.
We tried many different furniture layouts, ripped up floors, painted the room within an inch of its life, and then started filling it with special finds (including the best ever Facebook marketplace find -details in stories)
.
The vibe is a little classic, a little French, definitely vintage, absolutely comfortable.
.
Still more to do but we are a solid 80% there, but when your man is an interior designer, no room is ever truly finished.

Summer signature cocktail - CHECK! Tart and tangy, sweet and salty, rhubarb chamomile margarita. (mocktail version included). 🌼🌸🌼🌸
Recipe below

RHUBARB CHAMOMILE SIMPLE SYRUP
3 cups chopped fresh rhubarb
3 tbsp chamomile (dried or a few chamomile tea bags)
2 cups water
1/2 cup sugar
.
Cook rhubarb + chamomile + water together for 30 minutes until mushy. Strain. Add back to pot with sugar and cook until sugar is dissolved.
MARGARITA
3 tbsp silver tequila
2 tbsp triple sec
4 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp rhubarb chamomile syrup
combine and shake with ice.

MOCKTAIL
6 cups water + 1/2 cup lemon juice + 1 cup rhubarb chamomile syrup. Serve over ice.
